Technology Feature of the Month:
Unified Messaging Made Easy

By: Milton Moore
It just got easier to get your voicemail in email. Microsoft’s newest version of Exchange supports native Unified Messaging. Unified Messaging is the ability to get your voice messages in your inbox. Another feature of Exchange 2007 is support for Speech Recognition. This allows you to navigate around in your voicemail box using spoken commands. Exchange server can also perform the Auto Attendant feature for dial-by-name and dial-by-extension options.

Unified messaging has been one of the main drivers of Unified Communications. Unified Communications (UC) is the capability of tying voice, video, presence and collaboration onto one common platform which is easy to use. The major benefits of UC are the cost savings and productivity gains. Unified Communications has become a very hot topic across organizations large and small.

Cisco Unified Communications Manager is one of the most popular IP phone systems available. Cisco UCM is very robust and has a lot of great features. One of the protocols that Cisco UCM supports is Session Initiation protocol (SIP). SIP is a standards based signaling protocol that many vendors support for interoperability between phones and other devices. Using SIP, it is possible to link Cisco’s Communications Manager directly to Exchange for voicemail.

If your phone system is more than 5 years old, consider Unified Communications. To discuss upgrading to Unified Communications, click here or call us today.

Data Domain Replicator Software
To prepare for disasters, data must be copied to a safe site. Today’s standard practice uses backup software to make tapes which are then shipped off-site in trucks. This manually intensive process is error prone and introduces security risks. Furthermore, viable networkbased alternatives are limited because of the large size of the data. There just isn’t enough affordable bandwidth or time in the day to move backup and archive data over a conventional Wide Area Network (WAN)... Until now. Data Domain Replicator software turns a Data Domain appliance into the industry’s most network-efficient WAN vaulting solution for disaster recovery, remote office data protection and multi-site tape consolidation and longer term retention. With Data Domain’s Global Compression™ technology for high-speed, inline data deduplication, data sets are shrunk down to a size that makes WAN vaulting of nearline data secure, reliable and economical. Data Domain Replicator software easily integrates with your existing network infrastructure and with industry standard enterprise backup and archive software.

Key benefits include:
 Multi-Site Disaster Recovery
 Easy Integration into Existing Infrastructures
 Ultra-Safe Storage for Reliable Recovery
